• Active NABBA USA Membership is required for all participants.


Competitors will be checked-in, measured, and weighed upon arrival and registration.

Judging Criteria

Men’s Classic Physique focuses primarily upon a balance of size, symmetry, and muscularity.NABBA USA


  • All Competitor Attire will be inspected upon morning check-in.

  • All suit bottoms must be V-shaped

    • No thongs are permitted.

  • Male competitor’s suits must be worn at prejudging and finals.

  • Suits must be plain in color with no fringe, wording, sparkle, or fluorescence.

  • Competitors are not permitted to alter the fit of the posing suit by hiking it up in the back or by pulling up the sides during Front and Rear Lat Spreads.


  • Posing music is limited to solely to Final Round events.

    • Pre-judging does not include musical aperture

  • Posing music must be on a recorded cd or approved USB device according to competition organizer.

    • Posing routine must be cued to the start of the music prior to check-in.

    • Vulgar lyrics or illicit content of any kind is not permitted.

      • Violations of music guidelines or usage of vulgar lyrics will result in disqualification.

Rounds of Competition

Mandatory Poses

  • Front Double Bicep

  • Side Chest

  • Rear Double Biceps

  • Abdominals & Thighs

  • Favorite Classic Pose (No Most Muscular)

Relaxed Round

  • Keep your feet flat

  • Keep your heels together

  • Hold your arms at your sides

  • No twisting

  • Head must be facing the same direction as your feet.

Individual Round

  • Head judge will signal when to start

  • Maximum of 60 seconds with a warning when 10 seconds remain.

  • You are not obligated to use all 60 seconds.

  • Lying on the floor is not permitted.

Final Rounds

  • Posing Routine with music up to 60 seconds

  • Quarter Turn Round & Comparisons

  • Pose-down (overall title only)


  • During the Prejudging & Finals, male competitors are not permitted to wear any jewelry other than a wedding band.

  • Decorative pieces in the hair are not permitted.

  • No glasses (excluding prescription) or props are permitted onstage.

  • No chewing of gum is allowed on stage.

  • Any competitor doing the “Moon Pose” will be disqualified.

  • Lying on the floor is prohibited.

  • We expect you to act as professional on stage and to treat all competitors with respect.

  • No bumping or shoving are allowed. First and second persons involved will be disqualified.

  • Competitors numbers will be worn on the left side of the suit bottom.

  • During finals, we expect you act as adults with your placing.  No pouting, vulgar language, tossing your award, etc. is permitted.

  • Violations will result in a lifetime ban from NABBA USA®.



  • Backstage access is restricted to competitors, expediters, and NABBA officials.

Competitor Health

  • Your health is very important to us and if it appears you are disoriented, light-headed or you are experiencing serve cramping you will not be permitted to compete.

    • Any competitor disqualified for health reasons must be checked by the attending EMT and, if it is advised by the EMT, must go to the nearest hospital for evaluation.

    • Competitors who refuse to be evaluated by the EMT or at the hospital will be suspended from competition for a period of one year from the date of the occurrence.


Definition of a Novice

If an competitor has placed in the top ten (10) of any national competition then the competitor is no longer considered a novice.

A true novice is an competitor that has never entered an NABBA event.



National Qualification – Classic Physique

  • A competitor must place 1st or 2nd in their weight class – OR 1st, 2nd in the Men’s Open Divisions.

    • First overall in an area championship of the open division.

    • Top two (2) in a weight class from an area level national qualifier

    • Overall winner in a district level competition designated as a national qualifier.

    • Winner of the weight class in a regional competition designated as a national qualifier.

  • Qualification is valid for 1 year from initial competition.

    • Only if a competitor’s one (1) year qualification has expired may an competitor enter a state or higher-level national qualifying competition even if they have already won the overall title.

Professional Qualification – Classic Physique

  • Bodybuilding competitors that place in 1st or 2nd in each weight class will qualify for NABBA USA National Qualifying shows.

  • Competitors that place in 1st, 2nd, 3rd at a National qualifying contest are eligible for NABBA USA National Pro Qualifier shows.

  • Qualification is valid for 1 year from initial competition.
